Surrealism Picture

For this project, we had to make a surrealistic picture using pictures we took and images from the internet.

Milton Glaser!

For this project, we had to choose a graphic designer to research and make a poster about them based on their style. I chose Milton Glaser, who made iconic images such as the logo for the I love NY campaign and his Bob Dylan poster.

Quote Design

This is my quote design, which was a quote by John Lennon. I used color and value a great deal on this design, because blue and orange are complementary colors and because its such a cool color, orange looks great against orange too. This makes for a good contrast between the background and Lennon's face. The assignment was basically just to create a design based on a quote, and I made it my own by using an expressive, eye-catching palette and a bold design. This design didn't go through too many changes along the way that deviated from the original plan, but I WAS going to color in random words in the image to make the quote again. In the end it didnt look right and detracted from the image so i took it out.

The Monday (Friday) Report- Emotion Designs!

So these are my emotion pictures, showing loneliness, happiness, loudness and bubbly-ness(?). The way lines are drawn can definitely affect the mood of the drawing. For example, a dark, heavy, jagged line isn't going to remind someone of happy things, it would bring to mind a dark, angry feeling or mood. In the same way, a light, swirly line wouldn't bring to mind an angry, resentful feel. I used fonts in the same way, for example, in the lonely pic, I lowered the opacity of the font in the background and used a font that gave a quiet, mysterious feel. This made it feel quiet and lonely. Another example would be in my loud pic, i used brighter, more fun fonts and played around with the size to give the impression of sound waves. This could help me in the future, even in the next project to set the mood for text depending on what text is talking about.

The Friday Report. Logo Design

So this week we had to make two different logo designs. One had to be our name, while the other had to be a recreation of another company's logo or a completely new brand you made up. I chose to remake the converse logo. I made it my own by putting a converse high-top shoe in the logo, and i connected some of the letters with some lines, and also used a different font. I pretty much lucked out, i didn't brainstorm a lot, i just saw the shoe between the two letters and ran with it. I used shape in this design to make the converse shoe between the R and the S. I also balanced the beginning of the logo with the end, because if i hadn't put the converse star in the O, the logo felt too heavy towards the end with the shoe.

The Friday Report. ~Sanjay Patel~

So today we had to go find a graphic designer or blog that we really liked. I found several, however my favorite out of all of them had to be a book cover made by Sanjay Patel. Patel designs work based on Hindu mythology while bringing it to life with his eye-catching style. What i loved most about the site i found him on though showed the entire process of him planning and designing this cover. I love how the colors contrast and the figures are stylized, but interesting and flowing, in a way. The arrows at the bottom add movement and excitement, and points your eye towards the main character and villain. The circles and lines in the background add to the eye-catching flow of the picture. I love his style. I also love him because he's a Pixar illustrator and animator. Check out the interview that i read here!!

Design Book: Page 5, Color Design

This is my color design, it took me a decent amount of time, maybe 2 or 3 days to be completely done and happy with it. I put a lot of line in, to give it a flowing feel.  I also used complementary colors, yellow green, orange yellow and red violet.

Design Book: Page 4, Free For All

So this is the fourth entry in my design book, which we had to use everything we learned. This picture has a little bit of everything, and it shows. I love how this one came out.

Design Book: Page 3, Patterns

So this is my third entry in my design book project. This page had to have a pattern in it, which mine reminds me of a hostess cupcake. Either way, this piece is okay, but not my favorite so far.

Design Book: Page 2, Gradients

This is my second design in the series of 4. In this one, we were only allowed to use shapes and gradients. This one was coming along horribly for a while, so I totally redid it, and I'm so glad I did. Oh and I didn't mention before, all these designs must be in black and white. Well, if you couldn't tell by now. :]

Design Book: Page 1, Line

1st Page: Line
This is the first picture that was made for our first project in Electronic Design 1. In this picture, we were only allowed to use line, no fills or gradients. It took a little bit to re-adjust myself to illustrator too, I haven't used it in so long. I'm pretty happy with how it came out though.

Update: I found this amazing picture. It speaks for itself.

Well said.
